Who IS Darren Titmus
Darren is not your usual (nor your average) financial planner! He rarely wears a tie, and has a great sense of humour!
Darren was first authorised as a financial planner last century – back in 1999 – when he began his career with Westpac Business Banking. Since that time, he has developed his own style of finding out what is important to his clients, what matters most to them, and how to deliver their solutions in the most effective way.
With a constant focus on the big picture, Darren prides himself on thinking outside the octagon to deliver creative financial strategies. Such creativity often means that his clients can achieve their goals whilst not increasing their risk. What’s more, this same creativity often results in clients achieving things they never thought possible.
Being a small business owner himself, Darren is pedantic about saving every dollar he can for his clients – particularly when it comes to interest savings and tax savings. He is then equally pedantic about putting these savings to work to really put the client in a great spot financially. He gets so excited about this that it is not unusual for him to be more excited than his clients!
Some of the less exciting things about Darren are the many years experience he has in financial services, his successes, and his various university qualifications. Some of the more interesting things, however, include being invited to speak countless times to audiences around Australia and around the world on matters financial; his love of food from other cultures; his love of music – and life in general. Oh, and he cooks a mean batch of rissoles!
As a way of giving back to the community Darren is a volunteer tutor with the global self help organisation U3A. U3A is the University of the 3rd Age and is a worldwide self help organisation promoting learning for personal enjoyment and satisfaction. Darren is a volunteer tutor for the Brisbane campus each Friday. Here he gets to give his time and share some insights – such as managing money in retirement, investment psychology, generating income in retirement, managing Centrelink – with U3A members.
Beyond business, Darren is also a single Dad of four pretty fab young kiddies – 3 boys and a girl. They live with him one week on, one week off. It is a pretty crazy household when they are all together. He is currently re-learning piano (and he is not TOO bad at this) and learning guitar (he is pretty crap at this). Given his love of music, Darren does devote a bit of time to the local music scene.
